Public Health is contracted by the Ministry of Health, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, to undertake health and safety assessments at Early Childhood Education Services as part of the licensing process. This is to assess compliance with legislative requirements including the health and safety standards of the Education (Early Childhood Services) Regulations 2008. Health Protection Officers assess food safety and nutrition, water supply, sanitary facilities, laundry & sleeping facilities, communicable disease control, health and hygiene policies and procedures, immunisation records and general safety and hygiene.

Public Health also provide support to early childhood education services through advice on health and safety issues, managing disease outbreaks and health education resources. We produce an informative termly newsletter called Public Health ECE News which is sent to centres and contains relevant health and wellbeing information.
