We are seeking a dedicated Palliative Medicine Physician to join our team after the retirement of our long serving physician. This position is 0.8FTE.
We would consider applications from physicians looking for either permanent or fixed term opportunities.
The Hospital Palliative Care Team consists of a Physician, two Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Registered Nurse. The team works closely with the Arohanui Hospice which is located next to the hospital.
The Hospital Palliative Care Team is part of the Regional Cancer Treatment Service at MidCentral District Health Board which provides radiation oncology, medical oncology, and clinical haematology services to the District Health Boards that cover the communities of Manawatu, northern Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, Whanganui and Taranaki. This is a combined population of 500,000.
The medical team in the service has a wide range of specialist skills and expertise and includes:
- Five medical oncologists
- Six radiation oncologists
- Five clinical haematologists
- One palliative medicine physician
The service is a clinical consultation service. The service is also an approved FRACP training centre and undertakes active post graduate teaching at House Officer, Senior House Officer and Registrar level in conjunction with Arohanui Hospice.
