Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral (MidCentral) is part of Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand and provides healthcare services to over 180,000 people across the Manawatū, Horowhenua and Tararua regions. With a large hospital campus in Palmerston North, it also provides key health care and support services to neighbouring communities.

The Regional Cancer Treatment Service at MidCentral provides medical oncology, radiation oncology and clinical haematology services for the communities of the MidCentral, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Whanganui and Taranaki Districts.

We are seeking to appoint a Medical Officer for the Regional Cancer Treatment Service (RCTS) based at Hastings Hospital.  This is a non-specialist position suitable for a doctor with an interest in oncology.  This position supports the three specialties of Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology and Radiation Oncology.

Applicants for this position must have, or be eligible for, general registration with the New Zealand Medical Council as well as having demonstrated clinical skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.  Some experience in cancer medicine, and knowledge of chemotherapy, is an advantage, but not essential.

The role will predominantly support the delivery of systemic cancer therapy in the Hawke’s Bay and advising and assessing acutely presenting patients under the care of the RCTS.  This role is an integral member of the cancer team at Hawke’s Bay, supporting and advising a team of specialist cancer nurses and working alongside the RCTS Senior Medical Officers.

As applications are received they will be reviewed and shortlisting may take place earlier than the advertised closing date.
