The Opportunity

MidCentral is seeking an Energy Manager to join its Facilities and Estates Management team. The role of the Energy Manager will primarily be a professional and technical lead for managing MidCentral’s energy-related matters. The position will be responsible for developing MidCentral's energy management strategy and identifying opportunities for improving energy efficiency and energy use. The role will also work closely with MidCentral's Facilities Maintenance provider to identify opportunities to improve energy plant monitoring and operation at facilities across Manawatu, Horowhenua and Tararua.
 
MidCentral is committed to reducing its impact on the environment. The role will support MidCentral's Environmental Sustainability programme by taking the lead in meeting MidCentrals' energy decarbonisation objectives.
 
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will take ownership of MidCentral’s energy management and decarbonisation programme. The Energy Manager will be responsible for:
  • Monitoring, auditing and reporting on energy use to reduce energy use and costs. 
  • Identifying and overseeing energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects. 
  • Energy policy, strategy and planning.
  • Working with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation to identify and implement energy-saving projects.
  • Managing relationships with external stakeholders, such as the DHB’s energy providers.


Skills and attributes for success
MidCentral is seeking a self-motivated professional willing to take ownership of energy management and energy-related projects across the District. We are seeking a candidate who has:

  • A Bachelor's degree or postgraduate diploma in a field relevant to Energy Management (e.g. engineering, building and construction, architecture, environmental management) and five years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in energy management or a role involving energy projects.
  • Knowledge of process/control/operation of energy management.
  • Knowledge of buildings, building services, industry and operational processes.
  • Knowledge and experience with HVAC, control, and electrical systems.
  • Proven ability and commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental planning.
  • A high level of computer and data management skills and proficiency with energy analysis tools. 
  • Project management experience is desirable.
