Palmerston North Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Cardiologist to participate in the continuing expansion of our multidisciplinary Cardiology Service. This includes the provision of community based cardiology services, as well as the development of the hospital based secondary care service.
Palmerston North hospital has a six-bed Coronary Care Unit and dedicated attached cardiac ward.
The Cardiology Service provides Exercise tolerance testing, ambulatory monitoring, echocardiography (including TOE), diagnostic cardiac angiography, and the insertion and follow up of permanent pacemakers. There is a well-established heart failure service and the service is implementing the national standards for cardiac care.
Extensive planning is currently in progress to establish a dedicated facility for diagnostic angiography, PCI, and pacemaker implantation.
Experience in clinical leadership and service development is desirable.
The resigning cardiologist is also the Medical Head and this position will be advertised separately.
Applicants must be eligible for vocational registration in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand, as well as having demonstrated clinical, management and teaching skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
