The Medical Imaging Department at MidCentral District Health Board’s (MDHB) Palmerston North Hospital may be the place for you!
The department has an interesting and varied workload carrying out approximately 76 000 examinations per year in the provincial city of Palmerston North, servicing a total regional population of around 150,000. Regional services to a larger population also include Oncology, Breast Screening, Renal and Urology, with clinics held at the hospital including Respiratory, Rheumatology, Paediatrics and visiting specialists from Wellington for Neurosurgery and Cardiothoracic surgery.
Palmerston North Hospital has been recently upgraded and equipment on site in the medical imaging area includes a 16 Slice CT, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, DSA, Mammography, seven general radiography rooms and Nuclear Medicine with two gamma cameras. A private provider, Broadway Radiology has an MRI in the hospital grounds and there are opportunities for candidates to be employed by both private and public services, with an attractive remuneration package available. There is also the opportunity to work in Breast Screening.
A fully functional RIS/PACS will be installed within the next 12-18 months as part of a regional group with the hospitals from the lower North Island.
The Medical Imaging Department has three full time and two part-time Radiologists, one Nuclear Medicine Physician, two Radiology Registrars, 32.7 FTE Medical Radiation Technologists, with 15 clerical staff supporting these professional groups.
Medical Imaging encourages and supports close clinical interaction with our colleagues both within the hospital setting and the community. While the department values a generalist approach from it’s staff, elements of subspecialisation are fostered within the working structure.
MidCentral District Health Board employs more than 2500 staff at Manawatu, Palmerston North, Tararua and Horowhenua and Otaki districts.
Palmerston North Hospital is a 300 bed secondary hospital, which services an urban population of 75,000 and a total population catchment of 161,000. In addition, the hospital is a teaching hospital, and is associated with both Auckland and Otago medical schools.
Palmerston North is a major university city and is at the hub of key routes to the central North Island ski fields, and river adventures. Wellington the capital city, is only a two hour journey by road, as are the wine growing regions of Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa.
