The scholarship is available to Māori workers employed by MDHB or by a health/disability service which is funded by the District Health Board or Ministry of Health who wish to pursue training in the health and disability sector.

This training aims to support the non-regulated workforce to develop formal competencies in their current roles, and develop their potential to move into other health sector roles and careers.

What does the funding cover?

There is a fixed amount for each approved trainee, dependent on the course of study.

  • Course Fees
  • Backfill
  • Travel and Accommodation
  • Maori Support

Course Fees

Covered up to a limit.

Backfill

To cover expense for replacement of another employee.

Travel and Accommodation Costs

These are subsidised only. This subsidy has to be indicated clearly on the application form. This funding is available ONLY if the compulsory study days are held more than 100km away.

Travel and accommodation is organised through YOUR own services and should be processed at least four weeks prior to your travel dates so that they can get the most cost efficient prices.
