GP Liaison Officer
MidCentral Health has an Elective Services GP liaison whose role is to assist, communicate and facilitate links between GPs and the secondary care provider.

The Role of the Elective Services GP Liaison
- To facilitate communication, information flows and co-ordination between General Practitioners (GPs) and secondary care for the purpose of better management of access to elective services.
- To improve the quality and appropriateness of GP requests for first specialist assessments (FSAs) and facilitate the effective use of appropriate channels for GPs for provision of assistance.
- To improve the capacity to manage patients in the community. This will prevent unnecessary admissions and help rehabilitation once discharged from hospital
- To provide GP input on how best to manage requests for FSAs and follow up at clinics
- To assist in communication processes with the public and relevant stakeholders.
- To promote morale and workforce numbers among GPs
- To assist in appropriate contining medical education (CME)
- To encourage two way communication with other PCAs and GP Liaisons in the country
