The Funding Division:

Assesses Health Needs
The Funding Division conducts a Health Needs Assessment (HNA) every few years to determine where health funding should be invested. The HNA tells us which groups and/or communities are most disadvantaged and where resources should be invested.
People in MidCentral District with the worse health status are:
- Maori
- Horowhenua residents
- Socio-economically disadvantaged people
- Pacific Peoples

Plans Services
The Funding Division is responsible for developing strategies and plans, investing in workforce, and investing in key priority areas.
A key focus of the Funding Division has been the management of chronic conditions. Over the past two and a half years, Funding Division has been implementing its key priority health plans in the areas of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory illness and cancer.
Contracts Providers
Funding Division on behalf of MidCentral District Health Board contracts with over 250 different providers including MidCentral Health (Palmerston North Hospital) and the four Primary Health Organizations (PHOs) in the District.
All funding is by contract and is a contestable process.
All contracts include:
- Service specifications
- Specified volumes and prices
- Reporting Obligations
