Workforce planning is a significant challenge for MidCentral District Health Board (MDHB) with supply and demand being increasingly impacted by global influences. Service plans indicate the potential for changing models of care (eg the role of radiographers being extended to barium enemas) and/or growth in the short to medium term in a number of areas. The development of growth of the Maori and Pacific workforce in MDHB is also an important factor.
The Make-Up of MDHB's Workforce

Nurses makes up 47% of MidCentral DHB’s workforce, and the majority of staff are female (80%). The majority of staff at MDHB are permanent employees (80%).
Five per cent of the workforce are Maori and the average age of MDHB's workforce is 44.6 years. These statistics are consistent with the national DHB workforce average figures of 44 years and 5.2% respectively.
Over a third of staff have been with MidCentral DHB for 10 years or more.
