Regional Clinical Service Planning
The Regional Clinical Services Plan (RCSP) was initiated by the combined boards of the six Central Region DHBs. They are Capital & Coast, Hawke’s Bay. Hutt Valley, MidCentral, Wairarapa, and Whanganui DHBs. The RCSP is a draft plan for the delivery of secondary and tertiary (hospital) health services in the Central Region (lower North Island) over the next 10-15 years.

The Regional Clinical Services Plan is to help address the problem of increasing demand for hospital services and to help ensure:
- future sustainability
- access to services, and
- to improve patient satisfaction
The draft Plan will be considered by DHB boards over August/September. Following this there will be wider engagement with the community. The timeline and process for this is to be determined.
The Plan involves making more use of four powerful strategies:
- clinical networking - clinicians throughout the region work together
- community based care - far greater role for home and community as places for quality healthcare
- differentiation - each hospital to focus on what it's best at
- clustering - bringing some services together
Working together
The six Central Region DHBs are leading the project with project support provided by Central Region's Technical Advisory Services (TAS), the shared service agency owned by the DHBs.
