Workforce Planning

The planning, funding and delivery of health services for MidCentral District Health Board’s (MDHB) district involves a team of over 2,400 people – the majority of whom are health professionals. MidCentral DHB's Workforce Development Strategy (PDF. 817KB) aims to to ensure it has an appropriately skilled and experienced workforce.

This is a living document available to all staff and health sector unions and sets out MDHB’s plans for the medium to long term.

Workforce planning is a significant challenge for MidCentral District Health Board (MDHB) with supply and demand being increasingly impacted by global influences.  Service plans indicate the potential for changing models of care (eg the role of radiographers being extended to barium enemas) and/or growth in the short to medium term in a number of areas.  The development of growth of the Maori and Pacific workforce in MDHB is also an important factor.

Key Components of MDHB's Workforce Development Strategy

The strategy sets out MDHB's plans for:

  • Workforce information, collection and analysis
  • Workforce capacity, capability and competence
  • Workforce education and development
  • Workforce environment
  • Effective relationships
  • MidCentral DHB as a funder of services

Six-monthly reports detailing progress in implementing MDHB's Workforce Development Strategy are provided to the Board of MDHB.  The latest report (800KB) was provided in December 2007.
