Patients, visitors and staff wishing to park on-site at Palmerston North Hospital have to pay a parking fee.
There are more than 650 parks for the public. These public car parks are highlighted in orange on the map and are best accessed via Gates 9 and 11 on Ruahine Street (near the main hospital entrance).

For those accessing services in the Community Village use Gate 1 on Heretaunga Street. There is no fee to drive into the hospital site and drop someone off, as long as you leave within 40 minutes.

How to Pay

  • You will receive a parking ticket when you drive into the hospital site. Take this ticket with you – do not leave it in your vehicle.
  • Before returning to your vehicle, insert your ticket and pay at one of the automatic payment machines. Pay machines are located in the car parks and inside the foyer of the hospital (near main entrance) and are highlighted in red on the map. The machine will tell you how much you need to pay for parking. You can pay with cash, eftpos or credit card. All payment options are also available at the Wilson Parking Office (7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday).
  • Return to your vehicle and when leaving the hospital grounds insert your ticket into the machine to raise the barrier arm. For your convenience, an ATM machine is located inside the main hospital entrance.

Exemptions

A minimum number of exemptions will be made, ie: emergency vehicles, courier and delivery vehicles, buses, motorcycles, parents of critically ill children, immediate family of long stay patients (patients staying over three weeks), renal patients who drive themselves to dialysis, patients receiving regular long term treatment, blood donors, volunteers and rural health shuttles. In addition, radiotherapy patients receiving long term regular treatment will receive one hour free parking.

Exemptions will not be made for patients who are held up due to outpatient clinics running over time. As delays can occur for a number of reasons within the hospital, it isn’t practical to make exceptions for each circumstance.

Mobility and Rural Clinic Patient Car Parks

Mobility and Rural Clinic Patient car parks are located close to the main entrance of the hospital (Gate 11, Ruahine Street) and are highlighted in purple on the map. The same fees will apply to these parks as other parks. The majority of the mobility parks and some of the rural parks are pay and display.

Receipts

Receipts for car parking can be obtained from the payment machines. When you enter your ticket into the payment machine, press the button adjacent to the “receipt” message at the bottom on the screen. You will then be asked to pay. Once paid, the machine will dispense the ticket, followed by a receipt. In addition, if you pay at the car parking booth or office, you can also request a receipt.

Free Shuttle Service

A free car park shuttle service is offered at Palmerston North Hospital. This shuttle delivers patients/visitors to and from their cars and can be identified by its flashing roof-top orange light. The shuttle can be called from the pay machines by pressing the 'assistance' button. The shuttle operates from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

Emergency Maternity Patients

Emergency Maternity (Delivery Suite) patients should enter via Gate 9, Ruahine Street. An alternative entry is Gate 5, Heretaunga Street.
