If you want to make a complaint but are unsure how to go about it or would like support to do so, you can access free assistance from the Nationwide Health & Disability Advocacy Service.

Nationwide Health & Disability Advocacy Services


Advocates are employed by services independent of health and disability service providers and funders, and from government agencies. Advocates are confidential and will support consumers who believe their rights, under the Code of Rights, have been breached.

There is an advocate based in Palmerston North that you are welcome  to contact on: (06) 353 7236.

A health and disability advocate will:

  • Listen to your concerns
  • Give you information about your rights
  • Help you identify and clarify issues
  • Help you to explore the options availiable to assist you to resolve each issue
  • Support you in the actions you take to resolve your concerns

This service is provided under the Health and Disability Commissioner Act 1994.
