Health Safety and Quality Commission
The Commission has taken over many of the functions of the former Quality Improvement Committee and will be formally established in legislation by the Government on 1 December 2010.

In the meantime, an interim Board has been established to allow this important work to begin.
Work underway includes the development of a medicines reconciliation process; the introduction of a nationally standardised medication chart; and the introduction of a programme to improve consumer participation.

An Interim Board for the Health Safety and Quality Commission has been appointed and is chaired by Professor Alan Merry. The role of the Commission has been defined as:
- Leading and co ordinating work to improve quality and safety across the health and disability system
- Public reporting of quality and safety indicators including, initially, serious and sentinel events
- Other functions authorised by the Minister of Health including the collection, analysis and dissemination of information.
Terms of reference for the Commission are yet to be finalised.
