Ten new disability car parks were opened at Palmerston North Hospital yesterday.
The new parks are located in car park C outside the Emergency Department.
The extra car parks will mean there are now 31 on-site disability car parks available on the hospital campus.
After the work site was closed for the past three weeks the opening of the new parks received a warm and grateful welcome.
Disabled Persons Assembly Vice President John Carroll and committee member Brian Skinner came to see the new additions to the hospital. Both were really happy with the new parking spaces.
Mr Skinner was especially pleased that the width of the parks had been taken into consideration and the parks had been made wide enough to easily get wheelchairs in and out of a car even if other vehicles were parked on either side. He said this is often an issue with car parks.
With the opening of the car parks, access to car park C is once again available from the Hospital Gate 11 area on Ruahine Street.
