Sometimes we hear of things that people do which are just amazing. Imagine cycling the length of New Zealand.
MidCentral Health cardiologist Laura Davidson is going to cycle from Cape Reinga to Bluff along with 19 cardiologists and other health professionals who have committed to ride all or part of the 2117kms early next month. Along with 21 relay riders they intend to boost awareness of heart disease prevention and raise $1 million for the Heart Foundation’s Cardiovascular Research Fund.
The riders are expected to raise $1000 for each of the 14 legs of the trip that they commit to ride. Laura has committed to riding nine legs. The riders will pay all their own expenses and every cent raised will go directly toward the new Chair in preventive heart health research in the University of Auckland.
The Great Ride for Heart leaves Cape Reinga on 1 February 2010, and ends up in Bluff on 14 February, with only one day’s rest (the ferry crossing on day eight).
Clinical Nurse specialist in Heart Failure Erin Horgan is part of a group who are supporting Laura in this challenge.
“We all believe in what Laura is doing so we decided to simply ask people to give a little to achieve a lot.
“I’m giving because I don’t know if I could cycle the length of New Zealand but by doing so I can be part of the team.
“If you would like to help, all you have to do is visit Laura’s own fundraising page at the Great Ride for Heart 2010 website:- www.heartracer.org.nz/LauraDavidson to make your donation and to show her your support online.
