Staff from MidCentral Public Health Service were delighted that the Government Capital Assistance Programme recent funding announcements were successful for three local applications.
This will improve the quality of drinking water supplies for Eketahuna and Shannon, and construct a new water supply for Pipiriki.
The Public Health Service supports small suppliers to apply for funding and endorses the applications prior to submission to the Ministry of Health.
The total funding available to support small drinking water supplies in highly deprived areas throughout New Zealand was $10 million, and approximately $2.9 million will be spent within the MidCentral, and Whanganui District Health Board areas.
MidCentral Health Drinking Water Assessor Peter Wood said: “This has been a great outcome.”
Hira Paurini Drinking Water Facilitator says: “Clean drinking water is a basic requirement to minimise spread of disease. Helping those most in need access the funding to achieve this is what makes our job worthwhile.”
With the funding announcements completed the focus now turns to funding applications for the 2012 round which is closing on 28 February 2012.
