The achievements of health care providers in the MidCentral District Health Board region were recognised and honoured at the MidCentral DHB Health Awards on Friday night.
The supreme award for ‘Excellence in Innovation and Integration in Health Care’ was awarded to Lower North Youth Justice Residential Care Health Team. The award acknowledged the team’s success in integrating health staff into the residence and enabling young people access to primary care services that will ensure better health outcomes.
The Lower North Youth Justice Residential Care Health Team (LNYJRC) support a group of youth who have high and complex health needs. Often these are individuals who have infrequently interacted with health services, and when they have it has been unsuccessful. The team provides a positive experience to address their health needs; empowers them as emerging adults with appropriate health education; and supports them to connect with ongoing health services after discharge from the residence, including an appropriate primary care provider.
Chair of the judging panel, MDHB Deputy CEO and awards’ sponsor, Mike Grant, said: “The award applications we received this year were of an excellent standard and demonstrate how a number of projects and services throughout our region are making huge contributions to the health outcomes of the community through the innovative and integrated work they are doing.”
This year’s health awards attracted over 40 entries from health providers throughout the district. Over 500 guests attended the awards ceremony including finalists, board members and community leaders.
MidCentral DHB would like to thank their sponsors whose continued support is vital to the ongoing success of the annual Health Awards and enables them to celebrate the exceptional work done by health professionals throughout the region.
