Shared Security Services

14/02/2011 | CentralAlliance

centralAlliance partners Whanganui and MidCentral District Health Boards now have a joint security and fire risk management position.

It follows on from last year’s signing of a joint Spotless Services contract with both boards that also included security provisions, and the restructuring of MDHB’s risk management organisation.

Peter Birch, regional manager centralAlliance, Spotless Healthcare  was pleased to welcome David Christophers into the new position as Spotless Services’ centralAlliance regional security manager on 1 November 2010, after five years with MDHB, firstly as the coordinator: protective services, and for the past three years as manager: security and fire.

Before joining MDHB David was in the New Zealand Army serving in various command and training roles, both nationally and overseas, leaving after 21 years service.

David said he is excited by the opportunities the joint position will have in supporting both DHBs in the security environment. “Over the past 15 years the MDHB has remained at the forefront of healthcare security in New Zealand so it’s a great opportunity to share that security management experience.”

He will be looking to achieve common security processes and measures across both the DHBs “the key is to ensure that the security measures utilised directly supports the environment in which it is employed as each location has differences which need to be acknowledged as part of the integrated design process”.

He has already visited every ward at Whanganui Hospital and other WDHB locations to identify security support needs.

David is one of 32 security professionals in New Zealand who hold the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) credential, awarded by American Society of Industrial Security to qualified individuals who have demonstrated, through credentials and examination, expertise in security management principles, concepts, technology and best practices.

David has also achieved the academic requirements for the RABQSA Lead Auditor: Security Management Systems, holds an Advance Investigator Licence in the ‘TaPRooT’ Root Cause Analysis methodology, and has attended advanced level Crime Prevention through Environmental Design workshops nationally and internationally.

David currently is completing the Executive Security Practitioners (National Diploma in Security) Programme, through the Waikato Institute of Technology.
