Three Public Health Nurses have the Tararua covered

Three experienced MidCentral District Health Board Public Health Nurses work across the Tararua district undertaking a variety of work activities.
They undertake health checks for five-year-olds upwards, health promotion, response to emergent events (eg outbreaks of a disease), vaccinations for Year 7 and 8 children, adolescent clinics, assessment of those children that reach school without a B4 School check, management of communicable diseases (eg tuberculosis) and are the primary contacts for schools when they identify health issues. In addition to this, infant welfare is undertaken in the Pongaroa area by the Public Health Nurse, and by Plunket in the other areas.
Between Donna Milner, who is predominantly based in the Dannevirke area, Ann McKay, who is predominantly based in the Pahiatua area, and Barbara Hillocks, predominantly in the Tararua ranges, there is 105 years of nursing experience. This experience ranges from paediatric (children) nursing, medical nursing, obstetrics, asthma specialist, Public Health Nursing, surgery, orthopaedics (bones), neuro medicine (brains), neo natal (babies born early), and Plunket nursing.
On occasions the Public Health Nurses may be out of the Tararua area for part of the day to undertake the school-based vaccination programme throughout the MidCentral District Health Board region, however assistance is always available during business hours through ringing (06) 350 4560, or 0800 153 042.
