Nominations Open on Friday for Seven Positions on MidCentral DHB

21/07/2010 | Local Body Elections

Nominations open this Friday (23 July) for the seven elected positions on the MidCentral District Health Board.

Prospective candidates will have until noon on Friday 20 August to have their nominations in to John Annabell, the MidCentral DHB Electoral Officer, at the Palmerston North City Council, 32 The Square, Palmerston North.

A candidate may submit a candidate profile statement and recent passport-sized photograph with their nomination paper for sending out with the voting documents to electors.

Candidates are also required to provide a statement of their current, and any likely future conflicts of interest, when lodging their nomination paper.

Candidate information packs are available with nomination papers, and among other things, outline the rules and procedures governing candidate profile statements and conflict of interest statements.

Candidates must be nominated on the appropriate nomination paper, and it must be accompanied by a $200 deposit, which may be paid in cash, eftpos, or cheque (made payable to the Palmerston North City Council).

The election for MidCentral DHB will be “at large” within the board’s boundary – the same as the 2004 and 2007 elections. The election (on Saturday 9 October 2010) will again be held under the Single Transferable Vote (STV) electoral system, by postal vote.

Under STV, voters rank their desired candidates in order of preference. Candidates are elected when they reach a specific level of support from voters – called ‘the STV quota’.Follow us on twitter.

People will be able to vote from Friday 17 September to noon on 9 October 2010.

Nomination papers can be obtained from Electoral Officers at:

  • Palmerston North City Council, 32 The Square, Palmerston North
  • Tararua District Council, 26 Gordon Street, Dannevirke
  • Manawatu District Council, 135 Manchester Street, Feilding
  • Horowhenua District Council, 126-148 Oxford Street, Levin, and

Alternatively, nomination forms and further information can be obtained from the DHB Electoral Officer John Annabell, telephone (06) 356-8199, or from the MidCentral DHB website: www.midcentraldhb.govt.nz

Each DHB consists of seven elected members, and up to a further four members appointed by the Minister of Health. This allows for a range of perspectives, skills and knowledge on each DHB Board.
