| MDHB Chairman takes pay cut
MidCentral District Health Board chairman Ian Wilson today announced he would be taking a voluntary 10% pay cut from his salary for the rest of his term.
Mr Wilson, who has been an appointed member and chairman of the board and other local health boards since 1992, told the board’s monthly meeting he would take the pay cut to show appropriate leadership in the present difficult financial times.
In the 2007-08 annual report Mr Wilson was paid $50,000 by the MDHB.
He said he didn’t think it appropriate as chairman if he didn’t feel some of the pain himself.
Mr Wilson said there was pressure on the CEO Murray Georgel and his team to make some hard calls today (when they met for a workshop which included looking at making savings), and that he should take a lead.
However, he said it was an individual decision, and he didn’t want to influence other members to make any similar decisions - that was up to them.
