ED gets medical college tick

17/02/2009 | ACEM accreditation for ED

An Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) trainee registrar is booked in for advanced training in emergency medicine at Palmerston North Hospital Emergency Department (ED) - the registrar will begin on-the-job advanced training in July as a result of ACEM accreditation given last month.

The ED was examined in detail late last year by the College’s Board of Censors. ACEM recognised its “high regard for the standard of patient care and teaching in the Department” with an Accreditation Certificate presented to MidCentral Health last week.

Acute Surgical Services Group Manager Brett Sheehan says: “The inspection team noted, with approval, the regard with which the Emergency Department was held within the hospital, and the strong and stable Emergency Department nursing workforce.”

“The Accreditation Certificate will feature proudly on the wall of the department. The ACEM accreditation is a solid endorsement of the quality of care delivered in a broad casemix including trauma and emergency procedures by the ED team,” Brett says.
