Women’s Surgical Unit Opens

24/07/2009 | Women’s Surgical Unit Opens

The first patients have this week begun using MidCentral Health’s new eight-bed Women’s Surgical Unit on the second floor of the Women’s Health Unit.

The opening of this unit is one of a number of initiatives being undertaken to ensure that MidCentral Health achieves its elective surgical targets for 2009/10. These additional surgical beds for women will provide much needed capacity to ensure more patients get access to elective surgery.

The patients will be similar to those in Surgical Short Stay and will be from the following specialties:
• Gynaecology
• General Surgery
• Ear Nose and Throat, and
• Orthopaedics (Non Joint).

This unit will be led by Chris Simpson, Nurse Manager, Peri-operative Services/Intensive Care Unit/Gastroenterology; and Janine Ingram, Charge Nurse, Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit/Day Of Surgery Admissions/Pre-assessment and is within the Women’s Health Service.

The entrance to the unit will be via the ground floor entrance to the Women’s Health Unit, with access to the second floor from the lift at the north end of that building. Visitors should follow the signs from the Main Entrance of the Hospital to the Women’s Health Unit.
