When moving hurts

| When moving hurts
Today is the day set aside for world focus on musculoskeletal pain – the pain people feel “when moving hurts”. Musculoskeletal conditions including back pain, arthritis and those caused by injury are the leading cause of disability and health care expenditure.
MidCentral Health’s Judy Leader is New Zealand’s only Nurse Practitioner specialising in pain management, says addressing a person’s pain is central to their wellbeing.
“One in five people experiences chronic pain and Global Day Against Musculoskeletal Pain is an opportunity to highlight the impact pain has on individuals and communities.”
“Pain only became a recognised medical symptom in the past decade,” Judy says. Learning about pain management empowers both clinicians and patients to take a holistic approach to the health of individuals and can lead to major improvements to quality of life. The flow on effects for the community are huge.”
