Keas donate 30 Christmas boxes to Appeal

10/12/2009 | Keas donate to Christmas Appeal

Hokowhitu Keas donated 30 decorated boxes of Christmas goodies to children in our community who are not so well off last night (Wed).

Keas and their siblings donated 30 gift boxes to the MidCentral District Health Board Christmas Present Appeal.

A group of 20 Keas and their siblings came to Palmerston North Hospital to donate the 30 boxes, which they had decorated and filled with Christmas gifts, toward the Hospital and Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal. The appeal for Christmas presents and food started at the hospital on 1 December and will run through until Christmas week. Food and presents will be distributed by the Salvation Army.

Keas is the youngest section of the Scouts movement and is for six and seven year-old girls and boys. The Keas also make a promise when they join a group which is “I will try to share my fun and help others”.

Hokowhitu Keas leader Karen Munday said: “This term it is the Kea’s 30th Birthday and everything that we have done has had a ‘30’ theme to it. Our challenge this week was to bring 30 Christmas presents to put under the Wishing Tree.”
This is the second year the Keas have donated gifts to the hospital and they plan to make the Christmas visit an annual event.

The boxes were gratefully accepted by Palmerston North Hospital, Kmart, and Salvation Army staff.
