27 Carparks dedicated to rural patients attending hospital clinics

10/07/2009 | Dedicated rural carparks

Twenty seven carparks at the front of Palmerston North Hospital have been dedicated to Horowhenua and Tararua people attending hospital clinics starting next week.

The project is one of a number of initiatives being looked at, and rolled out, to improve access to and around Palmerston North Hospital. Others will follow shortly.

Starting from Monday (13 July), when patients from Tararua and Horowhenua are sent clinic appointments they will also be sent a yellow permit card allowing them to use one of these carparks on the day of their appointment.

These special permits (which have a map on the reverse) recognise that these rural patients have already travelled a distance to get to their appointment. Permit cards will have to be displayed on the vehicle dash board during the visit. The carparks will be especially signposted in carpark C nearest Ruahine Street, in front of the hospital.

Despite 27 carparks being available, on some days these may be full, and rural patients will still have to find a carpark among the other on-site carparks reserved for patients and visitors, or on adjacent streets.
