Palmerston North hosts National District Nursing Conference

About 150 district nurses from throughout New Zealand will attend the two-day 14th National District Nursing Conference in Palmerston North starting tomorrow (Friday).
The conference, which includes an annual meeting, will be held at the Convention Centre, and has the theme ‘Taking Hold of the Future: Generating Change’.
The theme is continued on Saturday with an hour-long panel discussion entitled “What should District Nursing look like in the future?”
The conference will be opened on Friday by Jenny Carryer, Professor of Nursing in a research chair between Massey University and MidCentral District Health Board.
Three MidCentral Health staff will also speak on Friday – Director of Nursing Primary Health Chiquita Hansen; Nurse Practitioner in Pain Management Judy Leader; and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Older Adult Mental Health Murray Edgar who will talk on delirium, dementia and depression.
Mark Smith, external relations manager of the Royal District Nursing Service in Australia will round off the Friday line-up of speakers.
A number of other MidCentral Health nursing staff are presenting along with representatives from throughout New Zealand on topics such as: wound management, continence assessment and management, rheumatic fever, palliative care, bladder retraining and professional practice.
