State Services Commissioner releases new Standards of Integrity and Conduct

| New Standards of Integrity and Conduct
The State Services Commissioner, Mark Prebble, recently launched a new code of conduct – Standards of Integrity and Conduct which apply to employees within both the State Services and District Health Boards as Crown Entities.
The purpose of the new code, which applies from 30 November 2007, is to strengthen the high level of trust that the public, Ministers and Parliament have in the State Services and Crown Entities.
In developing the standards of integrity and conduct the State Services Commission undertook research within the State Services and with members of the public to identify values and expected standards of behaviour. The draft code went through a detailed process of consultation including discussion with Crown Entities, representatives of unions and professional associations.
Given that MidCentral District Health Board (MDHB) has a number of policies and procedures currently in place that set out standards of conduct and behaviour (for example our Rules of Conduct), we are taking the approach of incorporating the Commissioner’s new code into our existing policy framework. Work is currently underway to do this and consultation with the appropriate groups including staff unions will take place.
In the meantime, I would like to draw to the attention of all employees within MDHB that from 30 November 2007 these new standards of integrity and conduct apply. The code is published as a one-page document (see attached) and is available on MDHB’s website.
Further information on the code can also be found on the State Services Commission website at www.ssc.govt.nz/code.
