Thanks to a generous donation of Hurricanes onesies from the team, babies born in Palmerston North Hospital’s maternity ward on Saturday were inducted as honorary team members.

The team gave out a number of the onesies to maternity wards across their region as part of their 21st birthday celebrations. This is the second lot of cheer brought to the hospital by the Hurricanes, after their recent visit to the children’s ward.

The donation was a really exciting one for the staff of the ward.
Diane Hirst, charge midwife, said: “The team on the ward were really excited to see who would be first to get the onesies, and the parents were thrilled to receive them. Gestures like this mean a lot to everyone in the ward.”

While it may be a while before these honorary members start at first-five, this may just be the helping hand they need to get started on their road to rugby superstardom.

The Hurricanes began their Super Rugby journey in 1996, and have visited Palmerston North Hospital numerous times since then.
