MidCentral DHB is partnering with the Horowhenua District Council to support the 2015 Age on the Go Expo in Levin on 2 October.
The expo provides a great opportunity for older people in the Horowhenua to see what is available in the community to help them age positively. Over 50 stall holders will be on hand to showcase activities and services that promote good health, fun and support for older people. These range from croquet clubs and advocacy groups, through to retirement villages.
The event is being held at the Horowhenua Event Centre on Victoria Street, Levin from 10am – 3pm on Friday 2 October. To ensure everyone gets an opportunity to attend, entry is free, and a free shuttle will leave from Te Takere every hour from 10am until 2pm.
MidCentral Health, Consultant Geriatrician, Dr Fred Hirst, is encouraging people to head along.
He said: “A lot of people see ageing as a time where you retire and take it easy as you slowly grow older. We know this isn’t what ageing is about; it can be a time where many increase their circle of friends, play sports, volunteer, take part in community and family activities, and generally have a great time. This is why we support this expo, to show people that just because you’re retired, doesn’t mean you have to stop being active.”
