MidCentral DHB and the Manawatu Turbos are partnering again to tackle smoking, and raise money for a good cause.
This will be the fourth consecutive season that MidCentral DHB has been working with the Manawatu Turbos to promote the smokefree message to local communities. The Turbos will continue to sport the smokefree logo on the playing field and their shirts, and will act as ambassadors for the smokefree programme.
As with previous years, the Turbos will play a special charity jersey game that will raise funds for a new procedure chair in the children’s ward at Palmerston North Hospital. The chair will be specially designed to accommodate children, and will make it easier and more comfortable for children while procedures are being done.
In 2013 the charity game fundraising went toward the purchasing of new televisions for the children’s ward, 2014’s went to buying comfortable recliner chairs for parents in the neonatal unit, and 2015’s went to purchasing an electric buggy for the child development service.
The unique jersey for this game involves children from the award, and the big reveal will be made closer to the time. This year’s jersey game will be on 5 October against the Wellington Lions at Central Energy Trust Arena.
MDHB’s Portfolio Manager Children, Youth & Intersectoral Partnerships Barb Bradnock is excited to be working with the Turbos for another season.
She said: “The Turbos are fantastic partners in both the smokefree initiatives, and raising money for the children of our district. The DHB and the Turbos have been working together for four seasons now, and we really value the work they do. It would be great to see everyone get in behind our team and support them, like they’ve supported our community.”
