Planned strike action by Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs) and Radiographic Assistants (RAs) may result in members of the public experiencing longer-than-usual wait times for radiographic services at MidCentral DHB.

MidCentral DHB has received notice of two intended periods of strike action by MITs and RAs who are members of the Association of Professionals and Executive Employees Inc (APEX), and who are covered by bargaining initiated by APEX late last year.

The strike will see a withdrawal of labour by MITs and RAS for two 24-hour periods:
Strike 1 – 7am Monday 14 October till 7am Tuesday 15 October
Strike 2 – 7am Wednesday 16 October till 7am Thursday 17 October

Radiographic services will be available for emergency, ‘life or limb preserving’ cases, which require medical imaging to prevent death or permanent injury, but most other services will be suspended during the strike period.

The only exception are ultrasound services which will be operating as normal during the strike period.

People with appointments that need to be postponed will be contacted directly to have their procedure rescheduled. MidCentral DHB apologises for any inconvienience these delays may cause to the public.

MITs are qualified healthcare professionals who produce medical images of the body, using radiation, to help clinicians diagnose and treat illness and injury. RAs assist the team with patient care and flow within the department.
