MidCentral District Health Board is to continue with its current arrangement for the provision of food services with Spotless Services for hospital inpatient meals, meals on wheels and staff and visitor cafes.
Spotless Services have provided these services under contract for the past 15 years and use food prepared locally, using local produce where possible. On average, 900 meals are provided daily for inpatients and meals of wheels recipients.
The contract is an integrated one with Whanganui District Health Board, and includes a wide range of support services including food, cleaning, orderlies, and facilities maintenance.
MDHB will continue to explore national and regional opportunities which provide benefits for the DHB.
Chief executive Kathryn Cook said in making its decision the board took into account a large number of factors and said “this decision is the most appropriate one at this time.”
