BreastScreen Coast to Coast is launching its ‘Time to Screen’ campaign this October.

The Time to Screen campaign encourages women to enrol in the national breast screening programme, to detect cancer as early as possible. Breast screening is free for women aged between 45 and 69 years, and is recommended every two years. Women simply have to call 0800 270 200 to book an appointment with BreastScreen Coast to Coast.

As part of the campaign, local women will be sharing their stories and reasons why they are taking part in the campaign. The women featured will also be seen at cinemas, on the back of a bus and on posters around town.

Breast Screen Coast to Coast Manager, Denise Mallon said: “This promotion is to encourage women to put aside their hesitations about screening and come and see us. We are hoping this campaign will see more women who haven’t been screened, book appointments. We are even willing to accommodate groups, if that makes it easier or more comfortable for women. Ultimately, women need to take the time out of their busy lives to do something for themselves; we hope that this will be a timely reminder.

“We understand that breast screening is unique, in that the equipment is specialised and located in one spot. Unlike cervical screening which can be done by a number of health professionals, we can’t move our equipment around. This does mean women have to go out of their way, but we know it’s for a good reason.”
