MidCentral Health’s sexual health service will be closed from midday 23 December, and will reopen on Wednesday 4 January.

Sexual health service medical head, Dr Anne Robertson said: “As you enjoy the festive season remember it is a time to keep yourself and your friends safe.

“Don’t be the drinker who collapses on the dance floor or who regrets what happened the night before, and look after those around you.

“Be an ethical bystander. This means if you see someone doing something that is not right, or someone that needs help, then speak up and intervene in a safe way.

“And remember if you are planning to be sexually active, condoms are the best protection against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Chlamydia rates are high and syphilis rates are on the rise nationally.”

For urgent medical concerns please see your GP/after-hours medical centre or Emergency Department. For information on STIs see:  http://www.justthefacts.co.nz/

The Sexual Health Service wishes you a safe and happy holiday.
