MidCentral Health’s sexual health service will be closed from midday today (24 December), and will reopen on Tuesday 5 January.

Sexual health service medical head, Dr Anne Roberston said: “As you enjoy the festive season remember it is a time to keep yourself and your friends safe.

“Don’t be the drinker who collapses on the dance floor or who regrets what happened the night before.

“Be an ethical bystander. This means if you see someone doing something that is not right, or someone that needs help, then speak up.

“And remember if you choose to be sexually active, condoms are the best protection against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Chlamydia is on the rise locally bucking the national trend and syphilis is back.”
