Thinking of a career in health? Well, a note about this month’s Sort It Expo in Palmerston North should be in your cellphone or diary.
‘Sort It’ is an annual jobs and careers expo that will be held at Arena 2 on Thursday 19 May 2016 from 9.15am to 5.30pm. The focus will be on showcasing jobs, careers and opportunities available in our region. The full day expo will bring employers, educators and training providers together with school leavers and job seekers. The expo is open to everyone and admission is free.
MidCentral District Health Board is taking part for the third year in a row promoting all health careers, but particularly reminding students that there are a lot more careers than doctors and nurses. MDHB has many other careers available including a variety of allied and technical roles, some of which require a science degree to start, and then additional training afterwards eg anaesthetic technicians, and clinical physiologists.
It is a chance for young people considering a health career to meet some health professionals and find out more about the different options and what subjects they should be studying at school.
MDHB will have a photo competition for students to take part in, matching old and new medical equipment. There will also be a health-related activity.
There will be many other career options available for young adults seeking their first jobs; young adults exploring future careers and training options; people re-entering the workforce or looking to develop new careers; and international school leavers and graduates.
The expo started in 2014 with about 2000 students attending, and this, the third year, an estimated 3500 people are expected.
