Clients in the East Coast region will have easier access to wheeled mobility and postural management advisory services, after Enable New Zealand’s contract was extended to include the area.
The service will allow clients to be seen in their own home, and they can trial the equipment in their own environment. This local service means that staff can tailor a client’s equipment to their needs, much better and faster than was previously possible. All of which results in much better outcomes for the clients.
General Manager of Enable New Zealand, Scott Ambridge said: “It’s great to be able to provide this service where there is an obvious need. The wheelchair and seating outreach clinics are going to make things much easier for our clients and their families, and we are excited to be able to help these clinics become more accessible for the community in the East Coast region.”
The service comprises a wheelchair and seating outreach coordinator, who is either an occupational therapist or a physiotherapist specialising in wheelchairs and seating, and an experienced wheelchair technician. They provide clinical advice and support for clients and the local Equipment Modification Services (EMS) assessor.
The Ministry of Health has extended Enable New Zealand’s contract for the wheeled mobility and postural management advisory service to fulfill a need in the East Coast region. The area covers some 200 km of the East Coast of the North Island from Potikirua near Hicks Bay in the north, to Te Toka-a-Taiau, Gisborne, in the south. This is after an extensive and successful year long pilot service was run in the region.
