Two mobility scooters were presented by Enable New Zealand to the Palmerston North City Council today. These will be available for public use in and around the city, free of charge.

General Manager, Scott Ambridge said: “We wanted people who might struggle with their mobility to easily get around our great city and providing the scooters is one way we can do this. We’re really grateful to Palmerston North City Council for supporting this initiative and we look forward to seeing people getting out and about on the scooters.”

The partnership between Enable New Zealand and Palmerston North City Council sees the Council as the main point of contact for those wishing to loan a scooter, while Enable New Zealand along with A1 Wheelchairs ensure the maintenance of these scooters is up-to-date.

Palmerston North City Council Customer Services General Manager, Peter Eathorne said: “This is a great innovation and thanks to Enable New Zealand, our City has become more accessible.   We encourage people to take up this fantastic service that we are pleased to be a part of.”

This community friendly initiative is for people aged 18 and over with limited mobility. The scooters can be booked for up to four hours. If you wish to book a mobility scooter call the Council on 06 356 8199.
