Enable New Zealand, in conjunction with the Jubilee Sailing Trust, is offering two positions on the Tenacious ship to people with a physical disability.
The opportunity is run by Jubilee Sailing Trust, a recognised charity based in the United Kingdom, which has brought to New Zealand a custom designed tall ship that is accessible by wheelchair and has many other features that enable disabled and able-bodied crew members to work alongside each other.
Enable New Zealand is funding two people to enjoy the experience on the tall ship, Tenacious. They will spend seven days in the Hauraki Gulf, helming the ship, climbing the mast, setting the sails and lending a hand in the galley.
Scott Ambridge, Enable New Zealand’s General Manager, said: “When we saw this opportunity we couldn’t resist offering these positions. Enable New Zealand’s desire is to see disabled people live normal lives, and the fact that this ship is accessible means that people with disabilities could have an experience that may not usually be so attainable. We really love what the Jubilee Sailing Trust has done to make this experience achievable for people living with a disability.”
Enable New Zealand will be offering two positions aboard the ship. The trip will be for seven days leaving 6 August 2017 and returning 12 August 2017. Anyone with a physical disability can apply.
Applications will close at 5pm on 7 July.
