The Palmerston North based EASIE Living and Demonstration Centre launched its new mobile van service yesterday.
The EASIE Living mobile van has been developed by Enable New Zealand to make it easier for people in the local, regional and wider communities to access information, advice and equipment to enable them to live independently in their homes and communities.
The van service is designed to be fully self-contained, can be set up in a matter of minutes and offers face to face presentations to community groups, individuals, and elderly and health organisations. The presentations include simple and practical advice to enable people to maintain their independence, up-to-date information and resources on support services in our region and practical demonstrations of equipment and products.
Visiting rural areas will be one of the key aspects of the new service, as people often find it difficult to come and visit the centre. The van will offer over 200 items for sale, including a wheelchair, mobility scooter, and the popular tipping kettles, with EFTPOS available. It will cover the Horowhenua, Tararua, Whanganui, Wairarapa and the Manawatu areas.
Raewyn Cameron, Community Disability Support Services Manager said: “We realise that not everyone is able to visit the centre, for a variety of reasons, so this new service will enable those customers to have the same kind of customer experience that happens in our store, but in their own local community. We have already had one presentation at Summerset Retirement Village which was very successful. The residents were thrilled to be the first to receive a visit and demonstration from the EASIE Living mobile van service.
The EASIE Living and Demonstration Centre’s van is available to visit individuals or groups. If you would like to make a booking, please call the centre on telephone (06) 353 2743 or 0275517948.
