Patients in hospitals in the Palmerston North and Whanganui regions will be treated to some lovely Christmas festive fare on Christmas Day.
Special items on the Christmas Day breakfast menu include croissants and fruit toast.
Christmas Day lunch will consist of roast lamb and roast chicken with homemade stuffing and gravy (served with roasted vegetables, baby carrots and peas), or a vegetarian filo roll, with the same vegetables.
For desserts there is the choice of: steamed plum pudding with brandy sauce; or pavlova and berry sauce; or sugar free jelly and fruit, with a Christmas treat to top it off.
The evening meal will start with roasted pumpkin soup, followed by either glazed ham (served with steamed gourmet potatoes and salad); or roasted turkey and cranberry sauce sandwich and salad; or roasted vegetable and feta salad.
Evening desserts will be a choice of: double chocolate mousse, stewed fruit, or classic jelly and ice cream.
Supper will be either: cheese and crackers, or berry yoghurt.
Depending on patient numbers, about 200 meals are likely to be served each mealtime by Spotless Services in Palmerston North Hospital, about 20 in Horowhenua Health Centre, and around 100 in Whanganui Hospital.
Meals on Wheels recipients will also receive the same menus, with about 90 in Palmerston North, 80 in Whanganui, 20 in Levin/Foxon/Otaki, and 20 in Feilding.
