Specialist services for clients with an eating disorder are available within Mental Health Services.

Specialty care is delivered through the Child, Adolescent & Family Mental Health & Coexisting Disorder Service (CAFS) for under 18 year olds, and through the four Adult Community Mental Health Teams for clients 18+ years and over (Horowhenua, Feilding, Tararua, and Palmerston north).

Acute and routine eating disorder assessments are available on acceptance of referral to one of the above services. Prior to an Eating Disorder Assessment in the community, an Eating Disorder medical assessment is completed by the Clients GP (ruling out any physical risk prior to assessment). In the event a client has been hospitalised (no referral) due to Eating Disorder behaviours, the ward will refer to the Eating Disorder Clinician, appropriate to age of client.

Following assessment both CAFS and Adult service, clients are assigned a keyworker, with psychiatry, medical, dietitician and psychology input being individualised  to their treatment plan. CAFS referrals may also include urgent or routine Paediatrician consultation.

Our hours are Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5.00pm
