Primary Health Organisations & General Practice (GPs)
Central Primary Health Organisation (PHO) is located in the MidCentral health district, encompassing Otaki, Horowhenua, Manawatu and Tararua regions. It was formed in July 2010 from the Otaki, Horowhenua, Manawatu and Tararua PHOs.

Central Primary Health Organisation
Central PHO is responsible for coordinating local primary health care services with the objectives of improving the community’s health and reducing health inequalities. They have particular responsibility for overseeing first contact health services provided by general practice, which are to be provided on a 24 hour a day, seven day a week basis. They are also responsible for a range of other specialised services such as diabetes specialist nursing, chronic care teams, local health promotion and services to improve access.

PHOs are responsible for the coordination and delivery of 24 hour accident and medical services. They are also responsible for the investigation, assessment, treatment, monitoring and recovery of health problems, including the care of chronic or recurring conditions.
