What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is provided in a variety of settings. The aim is to maintain or restore function, allowing people to move and participate in life and in their communities. After assessing a patient’s current function, the physiotherapist establishes (together with the patient, whanau/family and caregivers) treatment goals designed to restore or develop that potential, and then maintain it. This process involves assessment, diagnosis, planning, and treatment or rehabilitation.
Physiotherapy at MidCentral Health
Inpatient services in Palmerston North Hospital and Horowhenua Health Centre are referred for physiotherapy by the nursing or medical staff. These patients will be assessed and treated on the hospital ward.
Outpatient services are available at Palmerston North Hospital, Horowhenua Health Centre, Pahiatua Community Health Services and Dannevirke Community Hospital, where people where able, attend for treatment. A referral from your GP or other health professional may be required to access these services. Where the injury is the result of an accident, self referral is accepted.
Community Physiotherapists visit the clients in their own homes and provide equipment, exercise and treatment as required across the district.
