Intravenous (IV) Therapy

The IV Therapy service advises and consults on the care and management of IV Therapy to ensure that a safe, effective service is provided to all MidCentral District Health Board patients.

Intravenous Certification for MidCentral Health Staff

The IV therapy service facilitates education and competency assessment for IV certification of nurses, medical practitioners and other personal so that patients accessing MidCentral Health facilities receive the best care.

Referral and Test Information

Any patient with a vascular access device can be referred to the IV therapy team for consultation. A chest X-ray following the insertion of central venous access devised is required.

There is a clinical nurse specialist in intravenous and related therapies at MidCentral Health and IV assessors are available in the wards if you need any further advice.
