Lymphoedema

Lymphoedema is swelling of the arm due to scarring of the lymph ducts after surgery or radiation. This can also happen in other limbs as well after similar treatment.. This condition may occur soon after surgery, or years later. If you think you may have lymphoedema, it is important to seek medical advise.

Education is a very important part of helping prevent and minimise lymphoedema. The Cancer Society holds free education sessions every fortnight, held by Jenny Collett who is our local lymphoedema Specialist. These sessions are open to any person who would like to attend, regardless of whether they are being seen in public or private. Please contact Addis House for session dates.

Funding for treatment of lymphoedema is available for local mid central health public patients, and other DHB’s will have services in place for their patients.
