Gisborne and Palmerston North Hospitals and community services.

Teaches ostomy management, deals with ostomy-related problems and supply of ostomy equipment

Provides assessment, support and care for all aspects of home based nursing and symptom management and coordination between other services.

Palliative Care Service
The service consists of a team who act as a resource facility which works within the home or hospital to support terminally ill patients and their family. We compliment existing services and provide additional support if required. Referrals must come from GP or hospital doctor. Appropriate grief care is an important part of the service.

Meals on Wheels
Meals are available to a wide sector of the community. People convalescing from an operation or injury, aged or disabled, who find that cooking is beyond them. Delivered 5 days a week, includes dessert.

Home Help
After assessment by the coordinator, can provide short term assistance with housework duties and related needs. Your GP or hospital doctor can refer you for assessment.

Occupational Therapy
Assists people in accomplishing tasks relevant to their life roles eg work, leisure, personal self care. Following assessment they may provide advise, equipment or recommend environmental adaption so to maximise independence and quality of life for clients and families.

Physiotherapy
Provide an outpatient and home based service, maintaining mobility and function. We can assess for and provide mobility aids such as crutches or walking frames. Wer are able to assess reasons for your physical limitations, treat if appropriate or advise on compensatory techniques. We can also provide pain relief modalities such as TENS if appropriate.

Gisborne East Coast Cancer Centre
We offer a wide range of leaflets, books and videos about cancer, provide support groups (Living with Cancer) and information on what other community support services are available. We coordinate volunteers for one-on-one support and transport if required. We present education programmes on cancer and cancer prevention. We will coordinate assistance with travel and accommodation reimbursements for patients requiring treatment out of town.
